Institute of Geography

The Institute of Geography covers a wide range of subject-areas: five professors from both fields of Geography deal with topics ranging from Climate Research to Urban Geography. Over 700 students are enrolled in four Bachelor's and two Master's study programmes. The Institute was one of the first of its kind in Germany to introduce the Bachelor's and Master's structure.

Geography has been a feature of the University of Bremen since its founding in 1971. What began as a main area of study in the programme "Labour Studies/Politics" quickly developed into an independent academic subject with the introduction of a diploma degree programme and a teacher training degree in the 1980s.

Four professors, one associated professor, several lecturers and numerous research assistants currently teach or carry out research in the institute.
